Faculty of Pharmacy Research Assistant Successfully Defends his Doctoral Thesis

As a research assistant in Faculty of Pharmacy Eastern Mediterranean University and a PhD program student of Faculty of Art and Sciences Department of Chemistry, Karar Shukur has successfully defended his PhD thesis on the 19^th of February 2021. His thesis, entitled ‘Novel Urolithin Derivative Molecules as Dual MAO and Cholinesterase Inhibitor Agents’ was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. H. Ozan Gülcan, a faculty member of Faculty of Pharmacy. In the study, also co-supervised by Prof. Mustafa Gazi, a faculty member of Chemistry division, the design and synthesis of several multi-target ligand agents against Alzheimer’s Disease were achieved and their cholinesterase, MAO-B, amyloid-beta aggregation inhibitory potentials were shown concomitant to antioxidant activities.
